TRAVEL: City of Pines -Baguio

During the long weekend ( aug24-26, 2013 ), we decided to have an unplanned trip to the city of pines, Baguio City. Though its not the best time to go to the summer capital of the Philippines, we still go through.

I made a reservation to a transient house called the Resedencia Aleksadra transient that is located nearest to Burnham Park. Their rate us very cheap considering its accessibility to the attractions of the city.

I requested for a one bedroom unit but they gave me a two bedroom ( the one room is closed though)

     (view from the kitchen)

The house has cable television, personal ref, cooking utensils(pots, pan, laddle, etc), stove, eating utensils ( plates, cups, glass, spoon, fork, etc). The bathroom has a hot and cold shower. This is just like a home away from home.

The taxi drivers in the city are very much knowledgeable and accommodating, because when we are going out the transient house to look for a place to eat, we just ask the driver and they know where to bring you.

The first one they brought us is just a stones throw away from Resedencia Aleksandra. We ate our dinner in a small restaurant that specializes in sizzling bulalo. Prices are very cheap and there ate lots of "parokyano" eating.(price range 50-75pesos only)

On our second day, the taxi driver brought us to the restaurant located one block away from the burnham park. This restaurant is called "Good Taste" and they are keeping up to their name. The ambiance is a food court like restaurant. Very huge space indeed. ( price starts 70pesos for a rice meal with one viand)

PLACES TO VISIT
This is not our first time in Baguio. Thus, we had been to the iconic places in the city. But for the benefit of the first timers, here are some places to visit.

1. Mines View Park - the viewing deck is under renovation so we just took some pictures with DogLas and wear some igorot outfits.
(photo op with doglas costs 50pesos good for 3shots regardless of the number of persons)

wearing igorot outfit costs 10pesos per person( unlimited shots)

There is also a new spot at the Mines view park where you can take picture that you really came from Baguio City

Nearest to the Mines View Park is the the Good Shepered Convent where you can buy the best ube jam. But sorry for me, we were not able to buy because it is already sold out.

things to do in the park

(Biking)My daughter enjoyed biking here so much that she is asking when are we coming back.

(Boating) We were not able to try it this time because my daughter is afraid to ride the boat

(Dancing Fountain) At night time, lots of kids are having fun playing at the dancing fountain, others getting all wet to enjoy it fully.

Residence of the president of the Philippines while in the summerr capital. Dont miss this one !

5. Strawberry Farm
This attraction is new to me. It should be Strawberrry picking tour, but because it is not a season for picking strawberry fruits we just did a picture taking

According to our taxi driver cum tour guide, prices of strawberries are higher when you pick it yourself because strawberries are very sensitive fruits compared to apple or oranges. So if an unexperienced person do the harvest, most of the time there are loses. So to cope up with the loses, the charge is double. It is the experience though, you cannot do it in other places.

Our 3 day vacation is indeed an enjoyable one because the weather is good in Baguio while it is raining in other place in the country and we got to experience something new in the city.
