TRAVEL: Pahiyas Festival 2013

Last May(2013), I was with the group of travel agents for a familiarization tour of Laguna with side trip to Quezon (Pahiyas Festival)

This part, i will share to you my Pahiyas experience.

We departed Manila at around 7:00am and arrived Lucban,Quezon at almost 11:00am.(regular travel time is 3hrs) This is due to the numerous fiestas happening in most towns that we passed by. Upon reaching Lucban, all four wheeled vehicles are not allowed to enter so from SLSU(Southern Luzon State University), we walked all the way to the center of the town to experience the Pahiyas Festival.

We were not disappointed, as we were welcomed by lots of "bandiretas" hanging on most road of the town. And this is not the best part yet, there is a certain alley where houses where decorated by "kiping" and locally grown vegetables.  Pahiyas festival is an annual festival that happens every month of May in commemoration to the patron saint of the farmers "San Isidro de Labrador". They will offer their best harvest for the saint.

According to the locals, every year the alley that will be decorated differ every year in order to give chance to everyone to represent their homes. Some homeowners hire a designer to help them with the decoration of their homes. These home owners said that what they are doing is not to show off how rich they are because they can spent such big amount to have the decoration, they are only giving back what they had earned in the past year. It is their way of showing how thankful they are for the good harvest.

This is the house that won the second prize. It is a 5story home fully decorated up to the top level. The owner said they did this for almost a month with help of a designer and some relatives.

I feel sorry the I wasn't able to find the other 2 winners. I might have passed it because I enjoyed watching every house thinking that everyone deserves to win. Winners got a prize of 100,000php, 50,000ph and 30,000php respectively courtesy of Smart Communications.
