Parenting 101 - Immunization Schedule

Being a parent is a huge task. Ensuring your kids health is the top priority.

So for parents out there, i would like to share the immunization schedule i have with me, (through the baby book of enfakid)

1. BCG - ideally given at birth

2. Hepatitis B - first dose is given within 12 years of life. Hepa B birth dose may be used as the first dose in  a 3 dose primary series. Doses are given 4 weeks apart

3. Measles - in cases of outbreaks, measles vaccine may be given as early as 6months of age

4. PCV7 - (Pneumococcal conjucate vaccine)- minimum age 6weeks for PCV7 and
2 years for pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine(PPV)

5. Hepatitis A - recommended for all children aged 12months and above. the 2 dose series is given
 6 months apart.

6.Rotavirus Vaccine(RV) - given as a 2-dose series. The first dose is administered from the age of 6 weeks. Interval between doses should be at least 4weeks. The second dose should not be administered later that 24 weeks of age.

7. Influenza vaccine -recommended for children 6months to 5 years. It is also recommended for children with the following high risk conditions : chronic vascular disease (eg, CHD, vascular disease), chronic lung disease (eg. asthma), chronic metabolic disorders, renal disorders and hemoglobinopathies.
    children aged 6 months to 8 years receiving influenza vaccine for the first time need 2 doses given at least 4weeks apart

8. Varicella vaccine - the first dose is given at age 12 - 15 months. the second dose is recommended at age 4-6years

9. Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) recommended for females 10-55 years old. primary vaccination consists of a -dose series with a schedule of 0, 1 and 6 months.



Aside from the suggested immunizations enumerated above, there are other vaccines that may be needed like dengue, chicken pox, flu, typhoid, etc. below are the prices of vaccinations that i had with my daughter.

I hope this blog will help you watch out for the schedule of the necessary immunizations for kids.Other vaccines can be taken at your local health center for free, usually the ones that are needed on the first 12months of your kid/s . So try to visit from time to time to your local health center for available schedule and vaccines.
